LogLogic Slashes Prices on SIEM. Why Not Log Management Too?

You may have already seen this, but last week LogLogic actually made an announcement about a big price reduction in their SIEM, the tool they targetted at cyber security. Essentially you could read it as, “Before, when our SIEM wasn’t very good, we tried to charge you a lot of money for it. Now that we’ve spent all this time making it better, we are going to reduce its price”.
What does this mean? It’s easy to slash prices on something that the market doesn’t want to buy.
So let’s revisit their changing messages to the market over the past few years:
- 2007: “We do Log Management, someone else can do your SIEM.”
- 2008: “You don’t need SIEM if you do Log Management well.”
- 2009: “We bought a SIEM, so now you actually do need both.”
- 2010 “We can’t do SIEM well, so it’s more important to focus on Log Management.”
What do we think? Log Management and SIEM belong together in an intelligent, integrated and automated offering. But I’m just a vendor ranting, so take a look at some other opinions on this announcement.
